About Cataract Surgery

The History of Cataract Surgery

Although cataract surgery began over a century ago, recent innovations in technology have made cataract surgery a very safe procedure with high levels of patient satisfaction. Less invasive surgery techniques now allow your eyes to heal much faster. Nowadays, advanced artificial intraocular lenses allow patients more youthful eyesight than they ever thought possible. Instead of dealing with glasses after surgery, some patients choose to upgrade to a new, premium lens that enables vision at multiple distances.

Cataract Surgery Choices

Once you have decided to have cataract surgery, you’ll have several important decisions to make. The first item on the agenda is selecting a skilled cataract surgeon. At Capitol Eye Care, our doctors use the most modern surgery techniques available to provide our patients a safe procedure and improved vision. You will also have the option to select a lens implant option to reduce your need for glasses. Your Capitol Eye Care ophthalmologist will help guide you through this decision process.

What To Expect

The Cataract Surgery Process

We have our patients start antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory eye drops the day before surgery to reduce the likelihood of postoperative infection and inflammation. On the day of your surgery, you will need to have an empty stomach and a driver. Although the surgery itself generally takes 15 minutes or less, plan on being at the surgery center for two hours to allow for preparation and a brief recovery. You will be given relaxing medications to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Don’t worry, cataract surgery isn’t painful, and our anesthesia staff will see that you are comfortable throughout the procedure.

We Look Forward to Seeing You!
